Well, I had to delay leaving for a day because what was supposed to be a simple 50-hour week turned into a hectic 70-hour week and I didn’t get all my prep done.
Then I had to buy a new lawn mower when the old one died. Then the second house down the street from us burned down and I spent 4 hours hosing burning debris off my roof and the immediate neighbor’s roof, watching the firemen and generally hobnobbing and commiserating with the rest of the street’s denizens. As I suspected, watching everyone pitch in to help the family, who lost nearly everything, we’re surrounded by a lot of decent folks of all nationalities, colors and languages.
I can still smell the smoke as I sit here.
So, now I’m going to finish packing, shut the house down and try to get to Alexandria, LA before dark.
Y’all keep the Morga’s in your prayers, OK?
